This is a great unit if you have a hill close to your home. Don’t put it too far away as FEMA warns that most injuries occur en route to shelters. You will need a hill that is at least 5 ft tall for this unit to install properly. It is made with the strength of steel. Notice the picture of the bull dozer going over the top of this shelter. During this install, the installer drove over it to level the dirt. This also lets you know how safe it is if something should fall on it or be shot into it during a storm.
Hillside unit is now 3rd party certified by a professional engineer for its design.
The door is the same as our above ground models- Safe Room and Safe Shed- which has been tested for 250 mph wind force. It also has extra heavy steel wings (1/4 inch plate steel) around it which makes an excellent entrance, and gives you added protection from debris falling at your door. Most debris will roll off should it fall there.
The Hillside unit allows you to walk inside with no steps and is handicapped accessible. |
