We build our underground shelters, not only very durable, but also
with your comfort in mind. They have the 4 inch channel skeleton
which makes them stronger and also adds protection from debris which
could fall and/or be driven into the ground. Even below ground
isn't completely safe, unless it has steel reinforced into it, or is
constructed of steel. During installation we drive a bull dozer
and other large equipment over them, as the one picture in our web
site. You can drive your car over them
and not affect them in the least bit. Also you can be sure
whatever does fall up there above you will remain up there, rather
than in the unit with you.
We know that a lot of
people feel uncomfortable going underground, even though they
know this is the safest place to be in a storm or tornado.
Most people are surprised however when they go into our shelters.
Especially our Stair entry design. The stair is designed with
a large entry way which really makes it feel roomy. We use a
full size stairway which really gives you a feeling that you’re not
so cramped inside. The Below Ground models and Hill Side
shelters are made basically the same, and both models can be viewed
at our store. However the Below Ground is buried so it's not possible to view the
inside of this shelter, but by walking inside the Hill Side you can
get the feel of how the Below Ground looks once inside. The
entrances way is the only difference in the two models.
We cover them with tar
mastic which protects them from rust. The underground with stair is embedded in concrete for protection
of the steel and to make sure they stay
where you put them. This basically ensure you do not have a 'float up' due to ground water.
